Paul Cole is the founder and Executive Director of the American Labor Studies Center, which collects, evaluates and disseminates labor studies and labor history materals across the nation.The ALSC is housed in the Kate Mullany National Historic Site in Troy, which Paul helped create with the assistance of then-Senator Hillary Clinton and Congressman Mike McNulty.  In the 1860's, Mullany was the leader of the first women's union in the nation, the Troy Collar Laundry Workers Union, and the first woman to hold national union office.Paul was a longtime leader of a NYSUT local in western New York and has served as a NYSUT and national American Federation of Teachers leader. He was the secretary-treasurer of the NS AFL-CIO from 1984 - 2005. He is an emeritus member of the Cornell University Board of Trutees and has represented the labor movement all over the world.
