Unions 101: The Building Blocks of the Labor Movement

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The labor movement is built on member activism and strong relationships with community partners. But the structure of the labor movement - and how those pieces fit together - is often confusing for new union members and allies.

How does a local union function? How can a member become more involved? What is the relationship between your local union and its national affiliate? What are central labor councils and area labor federations, and how are they important in our fights for social and economic justice? How do these activities relate to the state and national AFL-CIO?

The goal of this workshop is to arm members and allies with new information to create stronger unions and closer ties with non-workplace struggles.
