Health Care: Getting New Yorkers Insured

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The fight to win the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was a gigantic national struggle. On October 1, a major landmark will be achieved - individuals and small businesses will be able to enroll in the new health insurance exchanges, marketplaces for cheaper coverage. More than one million New Yorkers are expected to enroll.

This presents a great opportunity and a great challenge for the progressive movement. If enrollment goals are met in New York and other states, the opinion climate will change about the law itself, and about government's ability to do good.

The purpose of this workshop is to involve activists to meet this challenge. In addition to an update on the law's benefits, we'll review the steps the State should take to meet its enrollment goals and to reach communities of color, low-income people and immigrant enclaves. And we'll have a discussion of what progressives can do to help promote enrollment ad help build the progressive movement, through using door-to-door canvassing and other tactics that build issue and electoral campaigns.
